WHAT WE BELIEVE
The purpose of this church shall be to glorify God. It shall seek to attain this end through the public worship of God, the preaching of the Scriptures, consistent Christian living by its members, personal evangelism, missionary endeavor, and Christian education (Ephesians 1:5-14; Colossians 1:9-10; Matthew 5:16; 1 Peter 2:9-12).
We accept the Scriptures as our authority in matters of faith and practice and adopt the Baptist Faith and Message (2000) as the guiding standard for our doctrinal beliefs. The following statements represent a brief description of our interpretation of Bible Doctrine:
-
We believe the Old and New Testament scriptures are verbally inspired by God and inerrant and infallible in the original writings and that they are of supreme and final authority.
-
We believe in one God eternally existing in one essence, yet co-equal persons, the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
-
We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by God, conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born to the Virgin Mary.
-
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice and that all who believe in Him are justified on the basis of His shed blood.
-
We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, His ascension into heaven, and His present life there as High Priest and Advocate for us.
-
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, who convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. He is the life of the believer, and He empowers the preaching and teaching of the Gospel.
-
We believe that mankind was created in the image of God, sinned, and thereby incurred not only physical death but spiritual death, which is separation from God, and that human beings are born with a sinful nature.
-
We believe all who receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith are born again by the Holy Spirit and become children of God and heirs of eternal life.
-
We believe that as Christians, we are to meet together regularly for worship, ordinances, and the encouragement of each other.
-
We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Baptism symbolizes one’s identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection and is not a means of grace or entrance into a covenant.
-
We believe that those who partake in the ordinance of the Lord’s Supper should be born-again believers baptized by immersion, walking in fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
-
We believe that Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth, the dead will be bodily raised, and Christ will judge all men, the just and the unjust. The unrighteous will be consigned to Hell, the place of everlasting punishment. The righteous in their glorified bodies will receive their reward and dwell forever in Heaven with the Lord.
-
Based on the teaching of the scriptures, Old and New Testaments, we believe God has instituted and ordained marriage. Marriage is defined as the exclusive covenantal union of one man and one woman in which such union is a lifetime commitment.
-
We believe legitimate sexual relations are exercised solely within a marriage between a man as the husband and a woman as the wife.
