Pastor's Ken Pastoral Prayer for the Nation
In 1952 President Harry Truman signed into law of bill making the first Thursday of May, a National Day of Prayer for America, encouraging everyone across our great land to join in a time of prayer for our nation.
This year’s theme, for our National Day of Prayer is to: “Pray God’s Glory Across the Earth”, based on Habakkuk 2:14, and reminds us that this promise, “for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”
Today, along with all who have gathered in prayer, we gather this evening to honor that sacred request “that the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”
Our Most Gracious God and Heavenly Father, You have given us this land in which we live as our heritage. We humbly pray that we may always remember your generosity and be faithful do your will. As we gather on this National Day of Prayer as a people rich in diversity, but United this day in a time of prayer, our prayer is that the “ earth will be filled with the knowledge of Your glory,” for our nation and for each other as we seek your Divine Guidance and Heart, as we claim your promises of Your Word:
Psalm 33:12: “That blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.”
Psalm 145:18-19: The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.
1 Timothy 2:1-4: “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for everyone-for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.”
2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people who are called by my name shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
Heavenly Father, we claimed these divine truths and promises as our own on this National Day of Prayer. But it is through our Faith and Trust in our Lord and our savior Jesus Christ that we ask your blessings upon our Nation as we gather in prayer.
We give thanks for our National Leadership, our Families, Workplaces, First Responders, Our Health Care Workers and All Who Protect Our Freedoms. We pray for our Communities and Cities, and all the Ethnicities and People Who Make Up Our Great Nation. Help us never forget the great truth upon which our nation was founded we are “One Nation Under God.”
But tonight Father, we are a hurting people… for we have had to stand by and watch helplessly as this COVID 19, coronavirus has swept across not only our nation but the world and Taken Lives Indiscriminately both the Young and Old alike the Healthy and the Sick, the Poor and the Wealthy, regardless of Race, Culture, Tribe or Nation.
We have face Uncertainty and Anxiety daily. We have been put in isolation by Social Distancing – kept from those we love, our friends and neighbors and all those that we cherish. And endured Financial Pain from the jobs we have lost. Our lives have been Interrupted and Disrupted by those memorable events of life now cancelled… the Graduations, Weddings, Trips, the heartbreak of Not Being Able To Be With The Ones We Love in their final moments of life.
Gone are the Indiscriminate Hugs and Embraces of Friendship and Comfort, the Shaking of Hands and Our Many Physical Expressions of Love. We all now live with a sense of the loss of our Security, Well-Being and Trust In One-Another – And perhaps worst of all, we now feel robbed of our life’s most precious commodity:
A Peace of Mind, Heart and Soul. – And Our Spiritual Well-being!
Tonight, Father, we call upon you as the Great Physician of our life and come before your throne of Grace to ask that you would heal our land and rid our world of this terrible pandemic that has swept our world and across our land that has so indiscriminately taken the lives of so many.
And for those who have been affected and infected by the Covid-19 coronavirus, we pray for not only their healing but for them to be comforted while they heal. Lord, please eradicate this virus from our nation and our world. We pray for that there would be adequate provisions for the medical care and medications that the sick need. We pray for their healing both physically but spiritually so that they may live life and life abundantly in the days ahead.
Father, we offer a special prayer for those who care for the sick… our Health Care Workers. For their kindness and selfless of heart and for the sacrifices they have made for us. We pray that You would be their source of rest, their source of replenishment when weary, and their Source of Hope in such overwhelming times. Lord we are taught in Luke 6:38 that whosoever blesses others
will be blessed in the same proportions that they have blessed. We prayer that you hear our Prayers of Blessings on all our Heath Care Workers. We also pray for their health and Spiritual Well-Being. Father, we ask that place a divine hedge of protection around them to protect those who have given and are giving so much.
And so, Heavenly Father, we turn to You tonight with tears of brokenness as we humble ourselves before your throne of Grace and pray that your Hand of Grace will never depart from our lives or our great nation. May Your Hand of Blessing be continually upon us…as You have blessed us in the past may your blessing be with us in the days to come. With Humility… with Sincerity... and out of Deep Sense of Urgency hear our prayer, forgive our sin, and heal our land. We ask that you bless our land with honest industry, truthful education, and an honorable way of life. Lead us to choose
the harder right instead of the easier wrong. May we balance our desire and concern for justice with a willingness to display and show mercy and may our own concern for safety be tempered with a willingness to take risks which that will bring forth a greater good for all people. When time are prosperous, let our hearts be thankful and in troubled times may our deepest trust be in you.
May our time together today, help you to heal the brokenness and pain of your lives whatever it may be. May you find wholeness and the peace of God in your life. His Shalom. Help God help you to breath in the sweetness of His Presence through His Word and may I hear in the stillness of these moments the tender knock of you desire to enter my life with your love and healing grace knowing that when I open the door of my heart to You, the darkness of doubt will pass away, and I be able to face tomorrow because you now live in my heart.
We thank you for the richness of your Mercy and the Abundance of Your Grace, and may our time together in prayer this evening and throughout this National Day of Prayer bring honor to Your Name… for it is in You O Lord that we place our Faith and Trust as we pray in the Precious in the Holy Name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
Amen and Amen
